  • Music

I've encountered some people during my life that don't care for music. I mean that they don't listen to music while driving, studying, walking, etc. Those kinds of people have always intrigued me. Granted, listening to the radio these days, I often contemplate never listening to music too, but I think they're missing out on a big chunk of life.

So why do I love music so much?

For me, its an emotional catalyst for my life. Whether its because I was raised as a typical korean boy or what, emotional expression isn't one of my most talented areas. So to remedy this, I use music to communicate my emotions. Sounds really girly so far, but hang in there. Every type of song has a place in my life. When I write a letter to somebody I care about, I usually turn on some korean emo songs like Nell or Kim Gun Mo or Sung Shi Kyung and let the writing happen. It brings me into a contemplative mood that lets me explore my thoughts. For days with great weather, I would probably turn on some house music. House music is perfect because of its optimistic feel with its driving beats and major melodies. Clazziquai is an example of korea house music, but that is a blend of pop and house. I would recommend anyone to explore deep house music, it's really awesome. When I have a lot of pent up anger, Chop Suey usually hits the spot.

I could go on forever because I truly believe there's a song for every part of life. Just think about it. When you watch a movie, do you think you'd be as emotionally involved if the soundtrack wasn't there? Would you be on the edge of your seat cringing during a horror movie if it wasn't for the clashing, high-pitched music? Would you feel like dancing in club if the DJ's playing Frank Sinatra music?
